It is my favorite time of the day. Magic hour is when the seemingly ordinary morphs into the extraordinary. That tree, that tuft of grass, that fence line, were all seemingly inconsequential just moments before the light shone in. Now they are vessels of light. It clings to them, embodies them, and lends them eternity for just a little while.
The light is shining in, not just on.
It as if the veil is torn revealing the holy ground on which I have been standing all along. That tuft of grass? It is fire planted straight into the earth, glistening and telling of the glory. The entire horizon is a page from the oldest of hymnals, singing out this holy truth: God is good, and he is with us.
Yet in all his holiness his desire is to indwell me, the vessel I thought most plain. I am changed from ordinary to extraordinary in this magic hour.
No wonder I love this time of day.
2 Corinthians 3:18 ~”And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”

Yes, the magic hour! I love this time each late afternoon as my kitchen and laundry room face West. Not only does the sun illuminate the ordinary outside, it dances across a messy kitchen counter, a plate of shredded cheese or a pile of dirty laundry.
