365 Project Day 88: My new old friend

March 30, 2011

Vintage in Color

Canon 5D Mark ll, 100mm 2.8 macro, 8.0 aperture, 3.2 seconds shutter, 100 ISO, Alien B800 to left in 50″ soft box at 1/8, alien B800 to right in 60″ shoot through umbrella at 1/8, Alien B800 on background in 60″ umbrella. Tripod used for slow shutter. Christmas lights waved across lens to create light and color effects. No textures were used in processing.

My mom found this vintage camera for me for my birthday in November and I am just now getting around to photographing it. I just love it. I hope to collect many more. This one was made by Eastman Kodak in the good old USA from 1926-1934. It’s a keeper. I would love to learn to shoot these old cameras. There is a gentleman on Etsy that uses over 60 old cameras to do his amazing work. You can see more of his work here.

I had fun creating the light effects in this shoot. I think it adds to the vintage feel. Kind of looks like film that didn’t process correctly. It has rained here quite a bit, and the studio is the best place for good lighting right now. I am learning a lot about lighting just playing around. It is nice with inanimate objects like my new friend here because I can take as much time as I need without feeling like I am inconveniencing someone.

Thanks mom, for the sweet gift. We are already fast friends.:)
