365 Project Day 155: Cousins

They have always known each other. Even when my sister and I were pregnant at the same time and we spent our days in each other’s homes, talking about life and dreaming about motherhood. We saw them on their ultrasounds, went to doctor appointments listening closely for the precious heart beats, and prayed for their safe delivery into our arms. We lived in a duplex right next to each other, with only a weight-bearing wall separating our lives. The night I went into labor with Katie, Liza whispered sweet prayers over me on the driveway and watched me drive out of sight. Katie came into this world just five weeks before Caroline. Neither of us knew we were having girls. Katie with her jet-black hair, and Caroline with her brilliant strawberry-blonde. After that, they were rarely apart, more like sisters than cousins, even disagreeing from time to time like sisters do. It was a sweet time. I will always cherish it.

As they grow and each one seeks her own path, they know they can always land here, in the safety of a familiar smile and laugh. Cousins. Friends. Playing Miss Mary Mack on a swing in the yard.

Ecclesiastes 4:9,10 ~ “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor:  If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.”

This is a very nice entry.
There is no substitute for shared experiences.
The familiarity sits deep in their eyes.
    2 beautiful girls.
