I found wonder today, without meaning to at all. I was smitten (again) in the produce aisle at my local grocery store. Right there, in between the turnips and the collard greens I saw the beauty. The produce was getting it’s regular rainstorm and I was mesmerized by the little drops on the red cabbage leaves. It was all there: color, light, reflection. Beauty! I wrapped up that little piece of grocery store glory and purchased it immediately.
I was excited to get home and photograph my cabbage. Yes, I realize I sound crazy. I probably am a bit, but that’s okay. Besides, I knew if I didn’t photograph what I was seeing, you might not believe me. Cabbage is indeed beautiful.
Once again God showed himself to me in an unexpected place. Yes I found God in cabbage. When I was taking the pictures, I definitely felt the wonder. So many colors shining through the water. It took that perfect mixture of water and light to see it, but there was a rainbow of colors in that little cabbage leaf. As I was reviewing them on my computer screen, I marveled at them again. I called Chris over and shared my enthusiasm with him. “Only God would put so much detail in the leaf of a cabbage. Only God would set the stage for so much wonder to be found in something seemingly so mundane”. He nodded as I completed my thought. ” He didn’t have to. He could have made them all the same. It is like he is just waiting to see if someone would notice.” He smiled at me. He agrees with me because he is a worshiper at heart. He loves anything that points to the beautiful attributes of God. I love him for that.
Come see for yourself!

“To cease to wonder is to fall plumb-down from the childlike to the commonplace—the most undivine of all moods intellectual. Our nature can never be at home among things that are not wonderful to us.” ~ George MacDonald
