Warrior

Warrior

Last year when I did my 365 Project, I wrote about raising a warrior, pondering what David’s mother must have felt as she raised a son to follow after God’s own heart. We don’t read much about her in scripture, but I know she must have played a valuable role in his life. I believe the prayers of a mother are powerful and that God hears every one. We endeavor all of our lives to teach them what is right and to love them hard without being overbearing. Many times I had to close my eyes and trust with my heart when he went off with his daddy to go on adventures. Mothering a son is a delicate balance of being there when he needs me, while keeping my distance when he needs to do things on his own — and knowing the difference between the two.

This is my warrior son. I am so proud of him, like any mother would be. He has overcome many obstacles in his soon to be twenty years on earth. I have prayed and listened, kissed boo boos and counseled. I have nailed my feet to the floor when he drove away by himself for the first time, trusting God to take care of him when I could not. I have held him in my arms, and stretched high to hug now his tall frame. He is my son. He loves God and his family, strives to do what is right, and deeply cares about people. He is smart, funny and gifted. He has learned to work hard and show compassion.

Yes I am proud of my boy, now a man. How can the same heart ache with both joy and sadness? I want to keep him, but I also want him to soar with his now strong wings.

God is good and he lives in my warrior son.

Psalm 127:3-5 ~”Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.”

Proverbs 22:6 ~” Point your kids in the right direction— when they’re old they won’t be lost. ” Amplified Version

Johnny is such a strong, yet loving young man. I am constantly amazed by his intellect in so many areas. I am so proud to have him as my grandson.

I appreciated these beautiful pictures, and the comments you made regarding them (and him). Having reared five godly young men myself, I relate to everything you said!
