Spring Ride

By In Musings
Around the Bend

It was a wonderful day for a ride. Chris, Johnny and I took turns riding our horses Sammy and Jackie today. There is nothing like the squeak of a leather saddle and the clip-clopping of horse hooves on pavement. I have loved this all of my life. Sammy is getting up there in years but he forgets his age entirely once he is under saddle. I think he loves it as much as we do. He holds his head and tail high like the American Saddlebred he is. He was once a show horse and I think the saddle  reminds him of those days. Once he is outside the fence he transforms from Old Pasture Horse to Winning Show Horse. I love that.

We all need a reminder of who we truly are sometimes.

When I rode today, Chris said he could hear me laughing in the distance from our front yard. Yes, I am so happy with my horses. Grateful tonight for a spring ride.

We are all more content when we are “bridled” than when are unmastered.
Our glory gathers and shines; our truest purposes emerge – still we avoid being caught.
