Because life can be so hard and the changes too fast to manage — I put tulips on my table in January.
They greet me at the door when I go to the grocery store; pink, yellow, purple, white. I choose red for all it means to me. Red for the red skippies I wore when I fell in love with my husband. Red for the color my husband thinks looks best on me. Red for ’73 VW Bug I drove in college.
But more than those things? Red for mercy. Red for redemption.
So I clear the table of all our books and computers and I place the tulips there in the sunlight. They reach and sway in the light, each one singing her own song. I gaze at them and remember that no matter what God never changes. He will always be true. He will always love us. He will never leave us or forsake us.
He is always God.
So yes, Tulips in January. See how they shine.
Hebrews 13:5,6 ~”because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’ So we say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.'”

My grandson brought me tulips for my birthday a few days ago. Mine are pink and white, and like you, the colors are symbolic to me – the pink for love and the white for purity. He is 16 months old – not much purer than that, and the love he and I already share is pure joy. I thank God for him and all he has brought to my world. Enjoy your tulips!
Tulips are one of my favorite flowers, especially red and white ones. Reading your posts for the past few days, my heart goes out to you in the loss of your mother. Though mine has been gone for 18 years now, I still miss her deeply. She loved each of us with her whole being! Such a picture of Christ’s love for me…and I imagine yours was for you. Yes, comfort comes from the Word! When my parents died, my Bible Study Fellowship leader shared John 14:18 with me…”I will not leave you as orphans, I will come to you”….and He does. Warmly, Gracia
