Meet my dogs. From left to right is Janey (Jane Austen to be precise), Cowboy and Indiana Appleseed. Cowboy is the oldest of the three. His love language has been physical touch since he was a puppy. If you have been to my house, then you know that Cowboy likes to be petted. And if you do not pet him, he will lean on you as if you are. All is right in his world when someone is touching him. Cowboy has starred in my blog many times. He is getting older and I am sad to see him struggle to stand these days. He is deeply loved by our family. You can see more posts with Cowboy in them here and here.
Do you know the love language of the people in your life? If you have never read it, Gary Chapman’s The 5 Love Languages is very enlightening. We don’t all receive love and affection the same way. Each one of my children have a different love language, as does my husband. What a wonderful gift to uncover these keys to helping them feel loved. My love language is primarily words of encouragement, but we have all of them in our family: physical touch, quality time, gifts, acts of service and words of encouragement. And while all of these are desirable, not all of them make us feel loved. For example, gifts is my secondary love language, but it is not even on my husband’s radar. It took me about 5 years into marriage to figure this one out. While he appreciated my efforts, it just didn’t light up his world to receive a gift from me. That’s okay. I am so grateful to know what he does love. It releases us both from unnecessary expectations. Whew!
Studying the ones we love is important. Learning what makes them swoon is indispensable to having happy and fulfilling relationships.
And Cowboy? He is definitely in his happy place.
p.s. The peanut butter on his head helped. We do what we can around here to help each other out.

Really? This is so good!
This looks like a cover of a dog magazine… You are a genius.
I must say that this blog is so adorable….being an animal lover, I so appreciated the pictures and the reminder of the 5 love languages. Can’t get enough of the pictures!
Amazing shots of your doggies! What a precious photo to have and to help you remember when “Cowboy” passes…we have two dogs as well and one being aour Golden Doodle “Tanner”. I’m assuming that’s what “Jane Austen” is…our Tanner is 5yrs, but our Border Collie mix “Cody” is turning 14 in March. I know he won’t have much time left. Will be trying the peanut utter trick with the two of them. 🙂
Don’t know how you capture such awesomeness in words and pictures.. every single day. I admire your depth and diligence.
LOVE IT!!!!! I’m an animal lover and I also really like the 5 Love Languages book. That was so smart of you to combine the two in such an awesome blog. GREAT JOB!!
