Just last week this hill was covered in snow. And yet, here they come. When I discovered them today in the lower pasture, the same pasture that I photographed boys on snow tubes last week, I laughed with surprise. Here they come.
I can almost hear him calling to them, as I sit down amongst them by the fence line. Perhaps he is calling, “Little Jonquils it is time. Will you open to me and shine?” One by one they are sprouting up straight and tall, unwavering in their response. They are saying yes. There doesn’t seem to be any discussion about last week’s frost, or global warming and how the weather can be so unpredictable this time of year. I doubt they ask for more time in the quiet soil, or shrink back for fear of the unknown. They just do as they are asked. They risk. They push through their slumber trusting the one who calls them by name. They bloom straight into the open sky, faces toward the sun.
I learn so much from the flowers. They teach me that beauty is truly found and felt in utmost vulnerability. They show me that trusting is the only way to find love and to be who I am created to be.
They teach me to say yes to God.
Yes. I will bloom. I will shine. Yes, God.
Hebrews 4:7 ~”Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.”
