When the storms roll in, don’t forget to play.
Playing and being silly connects us to the young hearts of our childhood and revives our souls. Burdens seem to melt away when we laugh. I am inevitably drawn in when I hear groups of friends giggling together. It doesn’t matter how old they are. Sometimes I just want to go over and plop down right in the middle of them and ask them what’s so funny. I want to be part of the joy too. Laughter is vital part of community and fellowship. It can bridge the gap between us, and make us fall in love all over again. It instantly puts us on the same page, creating a beautiful unity, even if just for a moment. It is magical in that way.
Play and laughter are a gift from God. We need them to keep the colors bright in our lives, and refresh our hearts.
Today, I had my Katie home. When I asked her if she would go play in the rain with me, she said yes. That’s my Katie girl. She never worries too much about outward appearances, or getting dirty. She is all about the heart. How I love her. We grabbed a pink umbrella, my green rain boots (which have a hole in them), and headed for the biggest puddles on the farm. Janey of course came with us and had the time of her life. We came back soaked but happy. Thank you, Katie.
I hope these images remind you to play. I know it was good for my heart.
Psalm 126:2 ~” We were filled with laughter, and we sang for joy. And the other nations said, ‘What amazing things the Lord has done for them.’ “
