Project 365 Day 165: Prayers for Phoenix

June 15, 2011

Reaching for Love

Canon 5D Mark ll, 100 2.8 macro, 3.5 aperture, 1/320 shutter, 320 ISO

She is a miracle, this 2 lb 11oz, tiny whisper of pink sweetness. She was not due to meet her mother and father’s embrace for another 12 weeks. She needs your prayers, as her tiny lungs and nervous system continue to develop, no longer in the sanctuary of her mother’s womb. I was speechless when I first saw her in the NICU, her stomach fluttering with her breathing soft and sweet. She is the picture of perfection, with elegant, long fingers that stretched out to meet her mother’s. The tips of her toes looked like little pink pearls.  She is still in an incubator, and cannot yet feel the safety of her mother and father’s arms. I know that God is holding her and singing over her as He continues to bring her into complete wholeness.

Her name is Phoenix. So aptly named. Please pray for her. Pray for her mom and dad, Josh and Emily. They are already such a beautiful family. I look forward to updating you soon with images of them holding her and kissing her sweet cheeks. Until then, we will pray for sweet Phoenix.

Psalm 139:13-16 ~ “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.  I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.  My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”

Mary Anne!!! You did it!!! THE. BEST. PICTURES. EVER. You did exactly what I was encouraging to push you to do – capture life as it’s happening as if it can’t be repeated. Raw, true emotion. Flowers can be posed, pictures can be altered, but life like this one cannot make up except for Jesus Himself. You captured the essence of new life – early life – before it should even be seen. Bravo, my friend. These pictures will be cherished for a long, long time. And certainly if God allowed this tiny little baby to be born, He will protect her in His hands until it’s time to release her to her parents. Praying for the family during this time, and once again, awesome job! Best blog pictures ever.

This is most definitely your best yet!!! Absolutely stunning! I felt the emotion of both mother and child through your photos. Don’t EVER doubt your abilities again for they are truly a gift to be treasured – like this sweet little girl! Much love and can’t wait to see what comes next! Best part of my day!

The last picture says it all…about the subject and the picture itself. Beautiful pictures, Mary Anne! Thank you for sharing your gift everyday with us. I know sometimes it’s not easy. Sets like these, I’m sure, make up for the frustration. Have a great day!

Miracles can definitely happen. Brett is proof :). He was 12 weeks early as well and aside from a small scar on his side from the incubator tube, you would never guess he was a preemie.

We’ll be praying for them as they watch their little girl grow and get healthy.

Such beautiful and precious pictures. They brought tears to my eyes as I remembered our own time spent in the NICU with Liam. It seems like a lifetime ago at times, and then I see pictures like these, and all of the emotions of that experience come rushing back. Precious Phoenix and her family will be in my thoughts and prayers. I know they have a journey ahead of them, and I will continue to pray for strength during this time.

How could you not believe in God when you see something as precious as this small child. Dear God, spread the wings of your Angels over this child and keep her safe from sickness and harm. Keep close watch over her parents and let them know that you have everything in control. You are a good and gracious God, and I know everything will go according to your plans. Amen!

Mary Anne, what an overwhelming blessing you have given our family ~ to capture Nixie’s beauty and perfection and speak the truth of our faith in the middle of all this. It’s so very difficult to communicate what we are experiencing, but you have done it for us. Thank you for this gift that helps us share our love for Phoenix, Emily & Josh and evokes passionate, fervent prayers for them. May God’s blessings and favor wash all over you and your ministry!!!

Agreeing in prayer for protection and strength for Pheonix and comfort for her parents as they wait to hold her in their arms unencumbered. “When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action. ” Matthew 18:19 The Message
