365 Project Day 84: Enough

March 25, 2011

Receiving Glory

Canon 5D Mark ll, 100mm 2.8 macro, 2.8 aperture, 1/400 shutter, 50 ISO

I wake up and look at my phone. A foolish thing to do really, in that my phone has email on it. I don’t really need emails before I have had time to talk to God, or even coffee for that matter. There is another balance alert. My heart sinks. My mind races to how we can cover it, which bills I can move around, what jobs I have coming up.

I place my hands over my face. Dread creeps in and tries to steal my hope. I am tired. I throw back the covers and shuffle to the French press. I sigh prayers while the timer clicks the four minutes away it takes to make perfect coffee. I light a candle and breathe in the cinnamon scent and I am soothed but only slightly, my mind still racing.

Before I sit down to read I do a quick round of straightening as we have guests coming for Johnny’s birthday party. In my gathering, I pick up a stray bottle of glitter and get a bit on my hands.

I am stopped in my tracks. My hands are open and shimmering, and all I can hear in my head is “enough”. I know God is speaking to me. We will have enough. Enough for today. And today is all I have, and all I need to be concerned with.

The glitter, the shimmer, is the glory, the God x-factor that multiplies our efforts when we open our hands and our hearts to Him. There is always color and brilliance when God is at work. It surrounds Him. Sometimes you just have to look for it.

I close my eyes and whisper prayers of gratitude. “Thank you for enough.” If I am given tomorrow, I will ask for that day’s provision when it comes. There are things much more valuable than paying the car insurance, or having money in savings. So much more valuable and worthy of my pursuit. Wisdom, relationship with the Living God, His word, the people in my life and those that I need to know, and love. Yes, love.

Psalm 119: 72 ~ “The law from your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of silver and gold.”

Matthew 6: 31-34 ~ “So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Beautiful work Mary Anne. I very much needed this right now and the imagery ties it all in. Thank you 🙂

Thank you. As always your vulnerability in imagery and word touches the deep places. This is why I always try to make time to come here everyday, even if I am typically a silent observer. Appreciative of who you are in Christ despite the fact that I don’t really KNOW you. Thank you for making that possible in your willingness to share all that God has blessed you with. May He always show you enough of Himself to experience the richness He has for you, and you alone, in every day.

I know that feeling well, although I don’t receive balance alerts on my email otherwise they would be coming in continuously! I wonder sometimes if these are ‘alerts’ to make changes in our lives, to take time out from the treadmill and re-asses… Thankyou for sharing x
