365 Project Day 360: Dreaming in White

Behind the Veil

*This post is dedicated to my friend Mia. She loves tulips because they remind her of growing up in Sweden with her mother, who would set out bouquets of them every Christmas. These are for you, sweet Mia.

I fell in love with these lovely white tulips at my local grocery store this week and brought them home with my 365 project in mind. I wanted to photograph their softness. They have such an ethereal quality.  Most of my photos are bright and bold, and I felt a little intimidated about truly capturing the sweetness of these flowers. Still, I wanted to try. I see a lot of amazing soft photography on pinterest but I don’t see that quality in my own work. So, in an effort to stretch myself, I decided to try something a little different with these lovelies.

Aren’t they simply wonderful? Their delicate, almost-sheer petals fascinate me, looking like a veil between earth and eternity. I see my Creator God here, his strength and glory revealed in the fragility of a flower. Even the flowers know how to worship, bowing their heads under the weight of his glory.

I want to be more like them. Frail, and yet made perfect in the hands of my Creator.

Ecclesiastes 3:11~”He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”

These flowers are truly amazing in their simplicity and “ethereal beauty.” I was moved to tears. I stand in awe of your talent and the variety and creativity that the Lord has blessed you with. Your words and pictures have been a blessing this year and will be missed when this project is finished. Hope to see many more inspiring images from you in the future.

      Freda,

I love your imagination. If the captions weren’t under your photos I would only see the beautiful image. After reading the caption for “trust” and giving it another look, I was able to see why you gave it such a beautiful description and it makes it even more wonderful. That image really moved me.

I second all of Miriam’s thoughts. Your captions are an art of their own.

    Beautiful, momma.

And one more thing. The “ethereal beauties” picture looks exactly how I imagined the end of Lewis’s “Voyage of the Dawn Treader,” when they get close to Aslan’s country and the water is covered in white lilies and light. You should read it, even just that one part, a piece of heaven–you captured it here.

You are most welcome, Mia. I thought about you all day every time I looked at the flowers after you told me about your mom’s tulips. So sweet. I know you miss her deeply. Love to you and your family this season and always,

I can’t decide if your words describe the images more, or if the images capture the words ~ either way, together they take me to see Heaven in all its beauty. I am in awe of how God is using you and that you share it with us. Thank you for allowing us to be sojourners with you.
