This is my stunning friend, Susan. I have known her for nearly 24 years now. We became friends shortly after Chris and I were married. We have brought each other meals when our babies were born, and prayed for each other during dark times. She is so encouraging and I am grateful for her friendship. I asked her if I could photograph her because she has a wonderful story. After approximately five months of hard work and determination, she is finally realizing some life long dreams for herself. She has lost a significant amount of weight and gained a new perspective. She looks amazing, but more than that, she feels amazing.
Weight loss has been a struggle for her for as long as she can remember. She has always been beautiful, but she didn’t feel that way, and worse, her health was at risk. She says she got a wake up call when at her last physical, the doctor told her she was on the brink of Diabetes. He warned her strongly that she needed to do something to take care of herself. She says she sat down at her kitchen table one day and prayed, being as honest with God as she knew how. She expressed her hopelessness to Him, and asked Him for help. Not long after that, she felt prompted to call a personal trainer. She didn’t want to, but the voice inside her head wouldn’t go away. She knew God was throwing her a lifeline. Still feeling like nothing would ever work, she dialed the number. She was so glad when she got his voicemail, and she left him a nervous-sounding message. That was the beginning of her journey. She now meets with him three days a week, and follows his directions to the letter. She lives on my street, and I often see her pounding the pavement when the sun is going down. She has worked very hard, and it has paid off.
The biggest difference for her has been inside, though. ” It’s like the weight was a cage around my heart”, she says eyes shining. ” I am finally seeing who I am coming to the surface, for the first time in my life.” She says she went to her class reunion for the first time in years, and found herself engaging with everyone. ” I used to be afraid to talk to people, but now I feel so free!” She says she feels so loved by God for how He has helped her in an area that she deemed hopeless. She now knows anything is possible with God.
I am so proud of her and inspired by her. Congratulations, Susan. I love you, dearly, my friend. You are a knock out!
Philippians 4:13 ~ ” I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”

She’s stunning!
Susan looks great. Good for her that she was able to follow that voice inside.
Mary Anne, what a great job! The photography is wonderful.
Susan is so beautiful! Please tell her I said hi. Loved her story and the pictures!
Mary Anne these pictures of Susan are beautiful. She looks great. I am so proud of her , to hear her story and see the results of her hard work. I have seen your friendship over the years and it is beautiful as well. Way to go girl!!
This encouraged me so much, MaryAnne! I have struggled with my weight for years & continue to do so today. Early stage arthritis in both knees doesn’t help, but this encourages me to keep up the fight! The Lord WILL help me succeed!
These are wonderful pictures, but the more beautiful part is the INSIDE of Susan’s heart. Susan and I went to college together, and she does not look a day older than she did in 1988! I can only WISH that I looked that good……..Thanks, Susan, for your story……..You have served as inspiration for me! With the Lord’s help, I’m going to lose the 25 pounds I need to lose right now.
I was at that class reunion and my husband and I agree that Susan looked the best of all of us! And yes she has always been beautiful. Way to go Susan. So happy for you and for your good health (you inspire me). It was great to spend time with you and Clay. The photos are breathtaking. God is good all the time…all the time God is good.
Mary Anne,
I saw your pictures of Susan on her FB page…….
I used to attend Atlanta Vineyard with all of you — and before that, roomed with Susan in college.
She looks amazing, and your work is amazing!
Your blogs are delightful to read. I’d love to hear of your home school journey, if you ever blog on that. I have a daughter who will be entering 5th grade in the fall. We’ve home schooled since — well, since she was born 🙂 and it’s been wonderful (sometimes hard, but still wonderful).
I was glad to read that Chris is still leading worship. I really enjoyed the few times I got to sing with him. He and Micky were both real jewels, and I’m sure their gifts continue to grow in the Lord.
Blessings on you and your family!
