I am grateful for the fences in my life. The lines that I can count on for safety and guidance. It is my tendency to test them, but I am thankful for their presence. God helped me put them in place. Scripture is the most important fence line that I have, as it guides me in what to let in and what to keep out. When I feel lost in the dark, I can extend my hands and feel for that fence to know where I am. Other boundaries that I find rest in are the ones that Chris and I put in place to protect our lives together as husband and wife, and as a family. We created them along the way, in agreements large and small, and now we know exactly where they are.
Some may say that fences cramp their style, that they need to have all restrictions removed to be truly free. I disagree. I believe the deepest sense of well-being and freedom comes when there are defined boundaries to protect it. I have watched this in my own children growing up. Sometimes I think they were just begging me to lay down a boundary, so they could rest in it. We all like to know where the lines are, so we can feel safe inside them.
Looking for the lines tonight.
Psalm 16:5,6 ~ “LORD, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.”

I love the last part of Psalm 16:6 “surely I have a delightful inheritance” I know that my Redeemer has wonderful things in store for me. I long for Heaven. I guess part of the reason is that I am getting older, but that is not the only reason. I just can’t wait to be with Jesus and bask in his presence.
